Eva is down in Mexico, and I'm sort of the only one here, trying to wade my way through siggraph emails and self imposed trip-preparation work. Not that I'm complaining! It's just kind of imposing - seeing this is sort of my first shot at being an Animation Club president.

Siggraph happens on August 2nd to the 8th, and the 6 members going have decided to road-trip it, staying at a nearby hotel. We'll probably be leaving the 31st of July, and 5 of us will be driving back. I'll be staying behind to catch another event and attend a friend's wedding.

Due to the very small amount of students attending the summer session at TACDC, and the amount of work I've been doing, there unfortunately hasn't been any Animation Club over the summer - nor will there be. Animation Club is going to be postponed until next semester - where we'll have stories about Siggraph to tell and more students to teach!

That's all for this post! Eva and I have decided to go ahead and try to enter for this month's 11 second club competition with a 2D animation! If you still want to enter, you've got plenty of time, but if you'd rather not, we're going to have a couple of things to do when Eva comes back from Mexico!

Other events going on this week involve the Open Gallery at our school, <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f="q&source="s_q&hl="en&q="2525+N+Country+Club+Rd,+Tucson,+Pima,+Arizona+85716&sll="37.0625,-95.677068&sspn="39.729049,93.164063&ie="UTF8&cd="1&geocode="FUMi7AEdYmJj-Q&split="0&ll="32.252733,-110.926852&spn="0.01038,0.022745&z="16&iwloc="addr">The Art Center Design College! Come and visit for free food and lots of well-crafted, hand-selected gallery worthy pieces.

We'll find out for sure about Siggraph in April, but things are looking good - we're getting word that the instructors we've used for reference have been contacted by Siggraph personnel, though they won't tell us any of the "classified" goods.

The Yard Sale on April 4th is moving along slowly, but surely, and Game Day is in the works, but still far enough out there in the distance that we're not worried.

Now, we won't be meeting on this Friday, as it's Spring Break, and Eva will be in Mexico, and I'll be in California, but the week after, we'll be back to our regular location, in the bookstore from 11-12pm.

That's a very brief summary, for sure, but if you have any questions about animation, joining, or even just keeping updated, EMAIL US!!
Animation Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07228146746561266292noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9161547261455668055.post-85340298425376710222009-03-04T19:34:00.000-08:002009-03-04T19:56:27.599-08:00Phase 2!We've all applied for Siggraph! YAY!

There's 7 of us total, applying to go from the Art Center. Wish us luck! As Siggraph goes through the applications, we'll let you know how things are looking.

Now, with that said, we move on to planning fund raising events, as well as some very promising ideas in terms of making revenue for the club, and getting our name, as well as our school's name, out there!

The Head of the Animation Department, Erik Westlund, has been keeping in close contact with both Eva and myself, guiding and helping as we need, as well as looking out for opportunities for us! He's got an idea for the local colleges and The Loft, of which details I am sworn to secrecy. Needless to say, if things go well, we could be in for quite a bit of Animating!

Eva, one of our co-presidents, came across a genius idea as well: she might be able to get us some freelance work down in Mexico! We just need keep in contact with the Art Center's Administration regarding legal issues and any possible hangups, but we're confidant that once we have everything sorted, we'll be knee deep in pseudo-studio work!

We've had a couple of hitches with the Ad-Fed's Yard Sale event, but it seems to have been put on the back-burner until further notice (We're shooting for April 4th). The Fine Art's Club has their Gallery Show next weekend on the 14th, and the Interior Designers have an event exclusive to their club this Saturday, the 7th.

Game Day is still a tentative April 2nd, but with all the things going on so far, that's been a benefit - if we had any MORE projects as we approach Spring Break, we'd need an on-campus therapist!
Animation Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07228146746561266292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9161547261455668055.post-89527478108521926572009-02-20T22:05:00.001-08:002009-02-20T22:17:08.836-08:00Week 3So far, so good.

Moving along, we've been having quite a week in Animation club. As it's the last week to sign up for Siggraph - we've been rushing to make sure everyone is signed up. Looks like we'll have 7 students signing up, and more than likely, our school will have a booth, so 2 or 3 instructors.

After this craziness is over, we'll be looking towards getting started on ideas for short films for the loft and 11 second club. We also have in mind some upcoming events! Ad-Fed is hosting a Yard Sale at the school on March 7th, the Fine Arts club is working towards their Open Gallery on the 14th, as well as helping us plan for our April 2nd Game Day / Student Appreciation Day! We're throwing around the idea of a grilling theme - hamburgers and hot dogs!

The rate at which things are going, we're all going to be busy until Spring Break - but never too busy to keep you updated! Check back next week for more updates and specifics, or email us!
Animation Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07228146746561266292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9161547261455668055.post-73442441525916010662009-02-15T15:45:00.000-08:002009-02-15T16:06:33.779-08:00Our second meeting!

Unfortunately, one of our members got sick and we didn't get a poster out about Animation Club reforming - so our meeting was quite small. We'll grow in time, I'm sure, but as of now, our newest member, Paloma, has been a part of Animation Club off and on as possible with her schedule (she's an illustration major!). Glad to have you Paloma!

We have a couple of upcoming events! The biggest and most pertinent of which, is signing up for SIGGRAPH in New Orleans! Sign up for Student Volunteer ends on February 24th, so if you're going, let us know!

The other events we've got cooking are still in the works, but the Interior Designers are working on a Yard Sale for March 7th, the Fine Arts club is a part of the Open Gallery event going on Saturday, March 14th, and we've got a tentative date of April 2nd for our Game Day! If you're interested in any of these events, feel free to email us, or bookmark us, and visit next week for more information!

Next Meeting: Friday, 11-12pm

Bring: Make sure you have a signed form from the office saying you are a student! (That is if you're coming to Siggraph - if you're not - just bring your sketchbook!)
Animation Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07228146746561266292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9161547261455668055.post-64134769926183827422009-02-07T15:32:00.000-08:002009-02-07T16:09:10.629-08:00Under New Management...Hello, one and all to the official blog of the Animation Club for The Art Center Design College, Tucson Campus!

Animation club is, well, a club for those of us who like to see our pictures move and act on screen. Our original intent was to make short films and visit conventions - in fact, up until recently, we had been working on our short film "Phantom Thoughts", headed up by our President, Emmett Hamilton . Emmett was a fantastic leader; always encouraging everyone he encountered, and inspiring them to be something greater than what they were - pushing them to grow and change. Unfortunately, because of his upcoming graduation, he has resigned as President, and left the running of the club up to new, but hopefully just as able, members Eva and Auston.

We had our first official meeting on 2/6/09, and decided to change up a few things.

Animators helping Animators:

We wanted the new Animation club to be about teaching and helping each other, as we as doing a couple of group / club projects, such as participating in the 11 second club and occasionally submitting to larger festivals. Plus, who doesn't want some homework help?

Film Fests, Cons and Speakers

We want to travel! Face it, the real reason we got into animation is because we wanted get out and be somebody! So what a better way than with friends and fellow animators? We'll be doing multiple fundraiser events with the intent of working up enough cash to go to places like Siggraph, Motion, Comic-Con and the occasional First Friday Shorts at the Loft.

With a new purpose, new leadership, and big plans for the future, we implore you to look around, stay a while, and heck, maybe even bookmark us! We'll let you know what we're doing, what plans we have, and alert you to any upcoming events (Whether you're a current student, hopeful candidate, fellow animator, or just interested in local events)!

Next Meeting: Friday, in the bookstore, from 11 - 12 noon.

Bring: A smile!
Animation Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07228146746561266292noreply@blogger.com0
